FAVOURED GRACE - Favoured Grace has only won two races during her career but has often run well in better company than this and is rarely far away. Since joining Marcus Wilson from Bruce Hill a year ago her performances have been consistent and whilst she had a setback last November after an unplaced effort at the Gold Coast when resuming has now had three runs this time in making 1650m in a class three ideal. In the small field Adam Sewell can settle Favoured Grace close to the pace and she should be strongest over the final stages.
WILL’S BID - Here is a horse that has seriously lost his way. A half-brother to Starspangledbanner by Fastnet Rock, he was sold for $800,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions sale in 2016 and entered the Hayes-Dabernig yard where he won a Geelong Maiden on debut. Clearly, they thought something of him because his next four runs were in group races in Victoria and South Australia. Will’s Bid failed in those and after resuming and delivering two poor performances in restricted class was moved on to Bjorn Baker in Sydney. He placed when favourite at Goulburn but followed up with an ordinary effort at Hawkesbury and now finds himself on the Gold Coast with Michael Costa for whom he has had one good trial. A $12,000 class one over 1200m at Beaudesert is serious fall from grace but with Scott Galloway up he can begin the long trek back to respectability.
MARGOT - Margot was unwanted in the market but ran on late at Ipswich to be runner-up in a class two at her second outing since resuming. She will find this Benchmark 55 easier and whilst she has to carry 61kg can expect a positive ride by Boris Thornton from the inside gate. Margot’s best efforts since joining the Ben Currie stable have been when ridden forward and if she gets a soft lead will be hard to run down.
HOUSE OF DRAMA - Another Michael Costa runner this Real Saga filly had a freshen-up after her maiden win at the Gold Coast and ran on soundly when resuming at Murwillumbah in a class one. She should have come on from that and with Scott Galloway to ride looks well placed in this BM55 over 1400m. From gate five the rider can sit off the tempo and House Of Drama should have too much class over the final stages.
GIRLS GOT SPIRIT - Girls Got Spirit is a very speedy Leon and Troy Corstens trained filly who has been freshened after a last start failure at Sandown Hillside course where she over-raced before being run down over 1000m. She won both other career starts showing strong speed and from a good gate here should be suited over the 900m. With Jackson Murphy claiming 2kg this daughter of Toorak Toff out of an Invincible Spirit mare can live up to her pedigree and be too quick for these Benchmark 65 horses.
